Review of Hollywood and Highland Hostel

Introduction and Ambiance:

When you travel to Los Angeles, there is nowhere more suitable to stay as much as on Hollywood Boulevard where you have access to food, malls and public transportation. Hollywood and Highland Hostel is pretty straightforward with their name because it is located at 7038 Hollywood Boulevard within walking distance from the big mall with the same name.

Rooms and Service:

Hollywood and Highland Hostel opens 24 hours, so this is a good service, for a start. When you arrive, the receptionist will take you to their office to check-in. The process may take long, but the host will make sure to make a small talk to entertain you.

As for the room, there are 4-bed and 6-bed dormitories available. If you choose 6-bed one and the rooms are filled when you arrive, the host will be happy to put you in a 4-bed room with the same price.

However, since Hollywood and Highland Hostel in located in the most lively neighborhood, you cannot escape the noise from outside, or even from other guests who can be chatting inside the whole night. The bathroom is also not perfect. I encountered a broken shower head and had to take a shower under a single harsh stream of water.

Food:

Hollywood and Highland Hostel offers you free bread, jam and butter for breakfast. They also have microwaves and refrigerators available. But the best part has to be their coffee. It was one of the best coffee I have ever had and I could not help myself to have more than one cup.

Panda’s recommendation:

You should definitely ask the receptionist for the most quiet room just in case. Moreover, there is a bathroom inside each dormitory, which all the guests in the room will have to share. So I highly suggest you to use it when everyone else is not around.

Value of money:

The lowest price for a bed at Hollywood and Highland Hostel is 30 dollars, which is very cheap for a place in a big city. However, the utilities could be better to meet the expectation.

Happiness meter:

As I mentioned before, the main focus is the cheapest price, so at least this may give you some happiness. Nevertheless, the noise and broken utilities can ruin the mood.

  1. I like the strategic location of the hostel wherein you have access to almost everything. You mentioned about the noise, I hope it’s tolerable and can still get a good night’s sleep.

    • As I said, ask for a quiet room first. But if you’re not a light sleeper like me, that would be awesome too. Also, the luck helps. I was unlucky and got a room that was right next to the hostel’s patio, so I had to listen to a few people chatting and laughing for a few hours. ^_^

  2. This actually looks really neat for a hostel — I wonder how many tourists know about it.
Definitely going to keep it in mind, thanks for sharing 🙂

    • I know what you mean. I wouldn’t know it if it wasn’t for Google. The entrance is as small as in the pictures, but you shouldn’t have a problem if you find the red awning. 🙂

  3. Looks like a great location, though not necessarily the best for some peace and quiet. Would definitely consider this depending upon the price if I am looking for a hostel in the LA area.
